International Year of Astronomy 2009
2009 is the International Year of Astronomy! Everyone has been taking amazing star pictures all over the world and throwing Star Parties to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Galileo looking through the first telescope!!!! eEEiiiii! Isn't that exciting?! Doesn't that make you want to play croquet at night with torches and telescopes everywhere and take pictures and drink cocktails!
a stylish, classic is always in good taste.....
Astronomy clubs! NASA! Hubble! Enthusiasts, people and enthusiastic star partying people!! 2009 is the year to gather together under the stars and get disco!! Look at this amazing website!
style="color: rgb(51, 51, 153);"> Appetizers, tiki lights, lanterns or tea lights in bags full of sand, a non-alcoholic pinneapple pear coconut sorbet punch with a garnish of hibiscus flowers in a bowl shaped like a big hollow moon and the punch glasses can all be shaped like the different planets. Has anyone invented that yet? I think I need to start working with glass or crystal before the season is over because that would be perfect! Black silk sparkly tablecloth or better yet..... black silky floor length slinky 30's style halter dress with diamonds sewn into it all down the back and dark red lips. I think that may call for dark chocolate truffles and Syrah, fireflies in my eyes and you with your big, penetrating... telescope.
Romance is afoot! Ah ha! Let the games begin!
LRO's camera has captured a view of Bürg, a 40-km diameter (about 25 miles) crater located within Lacus Mortis (the Lake of Death) on the near side of the moon. Complex craters, like this one, have terraced walls and a central peak (not shown here). The rim of the crater is along the right side and the walls slope down towards the left of the image. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/main/index.html
Lake of Death as seen by s-22 orbiter... or something...
Lake of Death in space! Who decided to name it Lake of Death? That's like, whoa! Freaking me out.
Photo taken by the Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter!!! That's what I meant to say!! (LRO)... or was it the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing satellite (LCROSS)??? Ohh... big, sexy moon eyes! Behold! Raise your glasses, all!!! Here's to Galileo, cheers! God love NASA and all the creatures in space!
So anyway star party planners- full moon this Wednesday, August 6th! Get the s'mores, some hard cider, bourbon, the telescopes and maybe get involved with a blanket and a bonfire on the beach or wherever. Take some pictures... get stellar... Yeah, baby you know what I'm taking about, its that summer magic that dreams are made of and skies made of moons and stars and diamonds....
IYA Summer Star Parties!! Customize it!
As we explore the Moon with IYA’s Summer Star Party, NASA is exploring the Moon with two new robotic probes. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is creating a comprehensive atlas of the Moon and returning amazing, high-resolution images of the Apollo landing sites. The Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing satellite (LCROSS) is positioning itself for a spectacular lunar impact, directing the Centaur upper stage of its launch vehicle into a permanently-shadowed crater at the Moon’s south pole.
Enhance your IYA Summer Star Party experience with information from the mission websites http://www.nasa.gov/lro and http://www.nasa.gov/lcross. Special mission resources including presentations and videos are available to you at http://www.lcross.arc.nasa.gov/resources. On Saturday, August 1, view the latest mission update at http://www.lcross.arc.nasa.gov/observethemoonnight.htm.
